European Parliament votes to improve EWC Directive!
2024 went by in a flash, and Pemota has really established itself as a key player in the European Works Council space. All that in less than two years.
So, I am out of breath 😉 … but happy, proud, and grateful. First, a big thank you to my partner team: Goof, Frodo, and Romek. I love it when a plan – or a team – comes together.
And, of course, I’d like to thank all the other people that I have been working with in 2024: all the members and the responsible management of the numerous EWCs and Select Committees that we had the pleasure of meeting with and training in the last year.
In alphabetical order ;-): Alcoa, Amex GBT, Astellas Special Negotiating Body, Carrier, Carrier Fire & Security, CCR, Chubb, CPW, FedEx, Garrett Motion, GEHC, Howmet, PPG, SAP Select Committee, Wolters Kluwer and Zimmer Biomet.
Another thing to be grateful for is the wide range of topics we got to work on. Non stop challenges and ever-changing. The projects we worked on this year ranged from:
- Divestitures, acquisitions, restructurings with job losses, factory closures, centralizing functions, and offshoring.
- Training on the revision EWC Directive, internal communication and communication with management, negotiation skills, and organizing the EWC work in a multilingual setting.
- Supporting Special negotiating Groups and Negotiating new EWC Agreements.
European Parliament votes to improve EWC Directive!
And, last but not least, the EWC world as a whole ended the year on a high note: December 19, the European Parliament voted to adopt the proposals of the European Commission to improve the EWC Directive! Now that the European Parliament adopted its position, workers in multinational companies are a major step closer to having a stronger say in their workplaces.
If anything: 2025 will be an extremely hectic year for everyone involved in EWCs. Hectic, and surely even faster than this year, since 2025 will be one day shorter 😉
Have a great 2025! Looking forward to working with you!
